Today is Thursday, July 27, the 208th day of 2017 in the Gregorian calendar, with 157 days remaining. This is the 189th day of Donald Trump's presidency. There are 1,274 days remaining in his term, assuming he doesn't resign or is otherwise removed from office.

-----

It started over the weekend, when I was feeling a bit blah and discovered that in memory of the recently deceased Marin Landau, the cable television channel Decades was running an all-weekend long marathon of the original Mission: Impossible (CBS: 1966-1973) series. The show aired during my junior/senior high school years (8th-12th grade, 1966-1971). I was a rabid Greg Morris fan.

Hard to believe it was 50 years ago, although the show does have some dated elements. Everyone smokes cigarettes everywhere, including hospitals and elevators. Pay telephones are ubiquitous, as are small, cheap inflammable reel-to-reel tape recorders. There are record stores that have listening booths!

Given the current turmoil over foreign interference in our government, it's interesting to see that the majority of missions in which the talented team engaged was interfering in other countries' politics. It occurred to me that we tampered with other countries' internal affairs in a far more entertaining manner than contemporary Russia does in ours. None of the Russians is anywhere near as attractive as Barbara Bain. Or Peter Graves, for that matter. And usually the leaders the team placed in office were competent. Ah, fiction.

Very early Monday morning, I lost connection to the cloud services where I store a lot of resources for doing the report. And trying to connect to the KGB Report website, I was presented with a page that said "site not found."

I filed a service ticket with our hosting service, Dreamhost, and the site (mostly) reappeared a few hours later, although I still don't know what caused the problem. I did nothing on this end. Cloud services reappeared shortly thereafter. Oh well, computers are like that, sometimes...

I had to take my 20 year old diabetic cat to the vet to get her nails clipped and blood glucose checked. I nearly hit an old lady who backed her car out of her driveway without looking directly into my path. I swung to the right and turfed someone's lawn, but avoided a collision. The hits continued as I arrived at the vet and discovered the cat's blood sugar level rivaled that of Willy Wonka. I reacted with surprise. The cat reacted by peeing on me.

I did manage to make it home without incident, where I read through three rejected job applications which claimed I was "over-qualified." Maybe if I offer to use only one of my temporal lobes? ...

Tuesday and Wednesday the feeling of malaise that was developing over the weekend reached its peak. The best way I can explain it is that it's like having the flu, but with no respiratory symptoms. I have a headache and all my joints hurt. I have no fever and apparently no major organ failure- everything's going in and coming out with the proper color and consistency- my blood pressure is normal, and the general online diagnostic consensus is it's a passing virus that should be gone in a few more days. (WebMD suspects cancer, but that's to be expected.)

When I'm ill, I have the metabolism of a Vulcan. I tend to sleep a great deal, which I suspect my body does to rally its internal defenses. I've slept about 20 of the last 24 hours, enough to make the cats concerned that I'm trying to replace them.

I blame Trump. At least with Obama, I had some hope for the future. He and the Senate are trying to remove the slim hope I had of being able to afford medical insurance later this year, since I appear to be overqualified for any position that offers benefits of any kind.

Well, I'm exhausted. Back to the usual format on Monday, I hope. In the meantime, check out the KGB Report page on Facebook, where posts will continue in the interim.

In the words of Norman Augustine, whose birthday is today,

If today was half as good as tomorrow is supposed to be, it would probably be twice as good as yesterday was.
